Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has urged all registered Fijians to cast their vote as this chance will only come once in 4 years.

Saneem says that all, 10,131 election officials have reported to polling stations around the country.

He has also challenged voters to beat the benchmark set in the 2014 General Elections.

During the first Election day media briefing this morning, Saneem says that he was also out and about since 6.45am this morning and has visited various polling stations.

Saneem says that there is an impressive turnout report from all polling stations this morning.

He says that reports from the other divisions have also given a similar message.

Saneeem adds that reports from different divisions also indicate that around 90 percent of polling stations have opened on time and early voters have already returned home from voting.

Polling venues that were not able to open on time were affected by weather, delay in staff arrival or limited access for delivery of material due to the rain but now have also been opened.

The Supervisor of Elections is also again reminding voters not to forget to take their voter cards.

Voters can find out their polling venue by sending their voter identification number via text to 1500 or call the toll free number 1500.

The texting platform will be active until 6pm today.

Polling started at 7.30am today and will finish at 6pm.

Meanwhile, pre-poll has concluded and the voter percentage turnout was 64 percent.

The Fijian Elections Office has also received so far 7,793 postal ballot papers and verification for majority of them has been done.

Meanwhile a voter, Shelvin Kishore has shared on social media that it took him less than 5 minutes to cast his vote and has also urged people to go out and cast their votes and make their voices heard.

Kishore also commended the Fijian Elections Office for a well organised election.
