30 girls will be part of the first ever Graduate Women Fiji STEM Camp which was launched at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Graduate Women Fiji President Charlotte Taylor says the STEM Camp is a 4-day camp where girls will participate in fun experiments, have hands-on learning experiences, and develop their interest in the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Taylor says that the STEM Camp for Girls project aims to increase girls participation in STEM studies and also inspire them to take up careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
She adds that 6 women from Fiji have been recruited to become camp instructors and these trainers will be trained by world-renowned engineer Dr. Michelle Dickson.
Meanwhile, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa says educating women and girls brings about self-esteem and confidence.
Vuniwaqa adds that it also promotes women and girls participation in their society and a woman needs to be more involved in education policy decision making process.
The 4-day GWF STEM Camp be held at the Fiji Club in Suva from the 29th of this month to the 2nd of May.
