The Suva City Council wrote off $219,000 in city rates as a result of Incorrect Billing.
This was revealed in a presentation to the Public Accounts Committee.
SCC Director of Finance, Kavin Rathod says some of these rates were imposed on SCC owned properties and on properties that had been sub-divided that had no owners.
Public Accounts Committee Chairman Ashneel Sudhakar had questioned SCC as to why some tenders were given to sub-contractors without giving them a proper agreement.
Rathod said at that point in time the Council was not aware of the duties that would be designated to the Fiji Roads Authority and the Suva City Council.
Most of the tenders that were given out before the establishment of the Fiji Roads Authority in 2012 did not have proper contracts.
Rathod says an MOU was signed between FRA and SCC for the allocation of duties.
He says after the MOU was signed, these Sub-Contractors were issued proper contracts.
The sub-contract work included the cleaning of streets, grass cutting and the cleaning of drains.
