The fate of a mother charged with murder will be known today.
It is alleged that in 2012, Asena Senimoli after giving birth, threw her new born baby in a river in Naitasiri causing the death of the child.
Yesterday defense lawyer, Seremaia Waqainabete gave his closing submissions and told the assessors that Senimoli did not intend to kill her baby as she feared her relatives, after knowing she was pregnant.
He said Senimoli was not in her right state of mind when she committed the act.
Waqainabete urged the assessors to find her guilty of infanticide not murder.
However, DPP lawyer Amena Vavadakua said prosecution strongly disagrees with that defense, that Senimoli is guilty of infanticide.
Vavadakua said Senimoli is a career driven woman as her first child is raised by her grandfather and she had full intention of killing her baby.
Senimoli has been remanded in custody as High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo will sum up the case at 11.30am.
