The Minister for Health, Jone Usamate said that he will not tolerate workers in the health system who are rude, abusive and dismissive towards the genuine concerns of the Fijian people.
While delivering his first speech in parliament today, Usamate stressed that although there are dedicated nurses and doctors who go out of their way to deliver the best services to our people, there are still many incidents where patients and families are not treated sympathetically.
He said that even in the short time since he has assumed the responsibility of Health Minister he has received complaints about long queues in hospitals and people not getting the medicine they need.
He added that people also complained about the way they were spoken to by health workers.
Usamate said that his Ministry will address all these issues as they also intend to put the word ‘Care’ back into Health care.
He has also urged everyone in the health system to put a renewed effort in treating patients and their families professionally, politely and with genuine care and concern.
