“Gender equality is not just about women but also about recognizing the historical discrimination and disadvantage women have experienced.”
Minister for Women Rosy Akbar made this comment during the National Gender Policy Implementation Workshop at the Tanoa Hotel in Suva.
This workshop comes after the rise in violence against women and children in Fiji.
Akbar says that they are entering a period of unprecedented collaboration and cooperation between women’s groups.
She says that they can only tackle this great issue if they work together and by creating committees and coordinating the delivery of awareness materials and training.
Akbar adds that each government agency will make this policy a priority and part of an important government business.
