The responsibility of the repair and upgrade of roads in Fiji has been handed over to the Fiji Roads Authority.
This has been highlighted in Parliament by Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala when asked by Opposition Member Mikaele Leawere on the plans by the Ministry to repair roads in rural and remote areas.
He adds that government is equally concerned about the roads in rural and remote areas and thus FRA will continue to work with Divisional Commissioners to ensure that the roads in the rural and remote areas are maintained and accessible.
Bala says the FRA and District Commissioners will meet on a monthly basis to further improve coordination.
When asked by Opposition MP Anare Vadei on the plans that government has for PWD depots all around the country that have been left vacant, Bala says that the depots mentioned are currently being used by Fiji Roads Authority contractors.
