Thousands of residents living within the larger Nadi and Lautoka areas are expected to face water supply disruptions from 5pm today to 12pm next Wednesday.
The Water Authority of Fiji says that this disruption is a result of an emergency maintenance work that will be carried out at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant.
The work involves the urgent replacement of a Polyjet section of the pipeline from the Vaturu Dam to the Nagado Water Treatment Plant.
This particular section of the pipeline is leaking and is resulting in large amounts of water being lost.
Areas affected are the Nadi and Lautoka areas except the Lautoka City Centre and some outer boundaries of Lautoka who are supplied through Buabua and Saru Water Treatment Plant.
Water tanks will be placed at strategic locations for people.
Water Authority also says that they will ensure that during the shutdown period there will be no interruption in the major services such as hospitals, airport, schools and hotels as 63 water trucks will be deployed to cart water
