There has been a reduction of Lymphatic Filariasis in the Eastern division from 11.2 percent to 1.34 percent since 2008 to date.
Acting Deputy Secretary for Public Health, Dave Whippy made this comment during the launch of the Filariasis Week at Mataika House in Tamavua today.
He said that there has been a decline in the statistics because of the mass drug administration in the Eastern Division,
He added that this is a positive indication of decrease in the Lymphatic Filariasis infection.
Whippy said that theme for this years campaign is ‘Reduce the Burden on Everyone, Take Your tablets now’, should be taken seriously by people.
He added that if the population in the Eastern Division, Taveuni Subdivision and the target area at Malolo, take their Filarisis tablets then Fiji will guarantee a move to eliminating disease from those localities.
Meanwhile, Whippy is encouraging all the general public to invest their time in this worthy cause and take the tablets.
The campaign will end on 24th of this month.
