Fiji made a record $11.3 million through Cruise Tourism earnings last year with a total of 187,890 cruise visitors coming to Fiji.

Cruise Tourism has also been increasing over the last 5 years, at an average rate of 15 percent.

A new Cruise Passenger Lounge has been opened at Suva Port for passengers of cruise liners calling into the Port of Suva.

Chairman of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited, Shaheen Ali says on average 30 cruise liners visit Port of Suva per year and creating a good first impression of Fiji when they disembark at the Port is critical.

He says the new passenger lounge has definitely lifted the standard of the Port and provides a good first experience for the visitors.

The lounge will also provide information such as attractions, maps and other relevant information that could assist visitors.

They have plans to have a similar lounge built in Lautoka.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama took a tour of the lounge this week.
