For the first time in its 50 year history the University of the South Pacific graduation ceremony was held over two days and in three sessions this year reflecting a consistent and significant increase in the number of graduates.
This was highlighted by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rajesh Chandra while delivering his speech during the graduation ceremony.
The graduating students consisted from Pacific TAFE, Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment and Faculty of Arts, Law and Education and the Faculty of Business and Economics.
A total of 1,774 students graduated from USP yesterday and today.
This is the largest number of students that have graduated from the USP compared to previous years.
Professor Chandra says 58% of the graduates are women.
908 students graduated from undergraduate programmes (Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees), 364 students have received Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas and 143 graduated with Master’s Degree.
Five students graduated with a PhD.
Professor Chandra highlighted that students from 28 countries have graduated, including 16 non-member countries, testifying to the growing international profile and attraction of USP.
He says since its establishment of USP 50 years ago, the University has issued close to 60,000 qualifications, testifying to its foundational role in the tertiary education of the member countries.
