Reconciliation of accounts is a problem with all ministries which later on leads to write offs.
This was highlighted by the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Ashneel Sudhakar while the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport was making its submission to the Committee on the Ministry’s 2015 Audited Accounts.
Sudhakar says this mostly happens because of misposting errors which leads to bank accounts not reconciled and it keeps on accumulating.
He says the Ministry of Works had accumulation over the years where people failed to reconcile cash and sales balances.
Sudhakar says after a while there is a request to clean the books and to show the correct figure and it is then written off.
He says that this has been the trend that they have seen with most of the Ministries.
Sudhakar says with the new training of staff as mentioned in Parliament last week, it will enable people to be appointed on merit.
