SODELPA parliamentarian, Anare Jale is now the Acting SODELPA President.
This is after the Party President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu stood down from the position citing vanua and personal reasons.
Jale is Acting President until a substantive appointment is made in the next SODELPA AGM.
When asked by FijiVillage on the reasons for Ratu Naiqama stepping down, SODELPA Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says they respect his decision and it will also be up to the party on whether they want him in that position again as Ratu Naiqama wants to spend more time with the vanua.
SODELPA's Annual General Assembly will take place in Savusavu, on June 28th.
This was resolved by the SODELPA Management Board at its meeting on Friday 17th May 2019 where Cakaudrove was chosen as the venue for the 2019 AGM in response to a request from Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, that his final AGM as President be held in Cakaudrove.
In a statement the new Acting President, Anare Jale says the Party Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka will continue as Party Leader until the Management Board appoints a new Party Leader at the 2020 Annual General Assembly, in accordance with the Party Constitution.
Jale says Ro Dona Takalaiyale has also resigned as one of three SODELPA Vice Presidents and Viliame Gavoka has been appointed as the Acting Vice President, until the General Assembly appoints a new Vice‑President.
