The Leader of Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa says Ram Naumi has been a staple feature of Hindu festivals in Fiji since the Girmit era leading to the establishment of various Hindu organizations, Temples and Schools.
In a statement the Leader of Opposition has said that Ram Naumi is a celebration of Hindu identity and success in Fiji and among the Hindus of Fijian origin in overseas.
She says that the prayers offered during the celebrations plays a very important role in the social development of our national life.
Kepa adds that last year, the Chiefs and people of Burebasaga had conferred the title of “Luvedra Na Ratu” to the descendants of the Girmitiyas.
Ram Naumi prayers will conclude at midday next Monday.
