Police officers should work with integrity and compassion when dealing with gender-based violence cases.
Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho highlighted this at the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Workshop in Suva regarding how police officers should handle gender based violence cases.
Qiliho told the police officers at the workshop that it is their duty to have compassion and respect and also earn and keep the trust of the people they serve.
Qiliho added that officers sometimes fall slave to the hunger of trying to solve the case and during these times the officers tend to oversee the sensitiveness of the issue.
He urged his officers to understand the importance placed on the issue of violence against women and children.
Qiliho also highlighted that complaints are the last thing he wants to hear as government has provided them with the necessary resources to help them accomplish their work more efficiently and effectively.
The workshop will end this Friday.
