Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says the perception by the public that the police have all the answers to their problems is something that still astounds him even after a year in office.
Speaking at the Corporate Capabilities Needs Assessment Conference at the Warwick Resort, Qiliho says even during the biggest natural disaster known to strike the Pacific region, the public’s expectations for them to attend to a report of a crime will not change.
Qiliho says the corporate capabilities within the police jurisdictions may vary but he believes their needs in terms of their work as law enforcement institutions remain the same.
He says some people may argue that the work they do is not as challenging because they are not out in the field facing the elements of nature and dangers of frontline policing.
Qiliho says we may come from varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds, but in today’s modern society we can no longer say that crimes are unique to one particular country or region.
He says it is imperative for Police jurisdictions to constantly look at ways of having a well-oiled machine that can cope with any situation on a 24 hour basis.
