The Public Rental Board has a total of $122,000 in rental arrears to date compared to $500,000 last year.
This was highlighted by Acting General Manager, Patrick Veu while presenting PRB’s 2015 Annual Report to the Public Accounts Committee.
He says they are now aiming to reduce this further to at least $97,000 by next year.
Veu also highlighted that those who do not pay rent on time are served notices and necessary payment arrangements are made adding that the Public Rental Board is now looking into deducting tenants rent from source.
He adds that PRB gives a tenancy agreement to successful applicants for 3 years after which they are encouraged to into home ownership.
Veu says that currently the Rental Board has 900 waiting applications that have met the necessary requirements.
The Public Rental Board currently owns 1,743 properties in the Central, Western and Northern division.
