The actions of Imshad Izrar Ali on the 1st of November, 2009 made sure Rajeshni Deo Sharma was no more.
These were the words of prosecution lawyer, Meli Vosawale in his opening submission in the murder trial of Imshad Izrar Ali who is charged with the alleged murder of his partner at their Howell Road home in Suva in 2009.
The 34-year-old kindergarten teacher was allegedly strangled to death inside her home.
Vosawale says the accused had not only hit her on the head, strangled her and left her dead, but ransacked her property to make it look as if someone had entered the house.
The first prosecution witness, Maha Ram, who is a security officer, was a crime officer at the Samabula Police Station at the time of the incident.
Ram says on the 3rd of November, 2009 he was informed that there was a body found at Rewa Street in Samabula.
He says he visited the scene of the crime and had entered the house through the back door and had seen a female lying on the floor facing upwards.
He says as a crime officer, he had seen that there was no sign of a break-in and there was no forced entry into the house. He says the front and side gates of the compound were intact.
Ram said the accused had filed the report and when Ram had visited the crime scene, the accused was there as well. He says the accused was standing in a corner, sometimes sitting with his hands on his face.
Ram says since there was no forced entry, it created suspicion on the accused and he was taken in for questioning.
He says the accused was questioned after they had gone through the post mortem report and reports of other investigations.
The trial continues.
