The current proposed village by-law says that an individual or organisation cannot enter a village without prior consent.
When asked by Fijivillage on this proposed village by-law, the Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs Naipote Katonitabua says this has been done because they have found out over the years that the villagers are occupied by a lot of visitations.
Katonitabua says some villages are often burdened by the visitations by NGOs, government ministries and some visitors who are not part of their traditional relations.
He says villagers have their core responsibilities in the village like farming to support their children.
Katonitabua says some of the villagers have started to refuse the visitations as they are tied up in cultural obligations like funerals.
Katonitabua says visits need planning as villages need time for preparations.
