30 Primary School teachers of the Western Division are undergoing a 3 day workshop on Climate Change Education for Fiji Teachers.
While Opening the training workshop the Deputy Secretary for Education Kelera Taloga says Climate Change is hardly discussed at Primary School levels and that is the reason why this workshop is being conducted so the information can reach our little ones first and make them aware of its devastating effects.
Taloga says by doing the activities in the workshop the teachers will understand the causes and effects of climate change.
She says Climate Change is threatening the social and economic well-being not only for Fijians but the people of small and vulnerable developing states.
Taloga says it is impending our ability to develop strong economies and unless we can overcome the challenge that climate change poses, there is little hope of countries like Fiji meeting their Sustainable Development Goals.
The teachers are being trained by facilitators of the National University of Malaysia, Facilitators from UNESCO in Jarkata with the assistance of Ministry of Education Officers.
