The prices for Public Rental Board flats in Raiwai are being revised.
This has been confirmed by the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment Parveen Bala while responding to questions raised in Parliament today.
Bala also confirmed that 60 percent of the units have been occupied.
He said there were some issues at the initial stage however it has been sorted out.
He added they have also changed the policy and students are now allowed to stay in the flats.
Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu then said in Parliament that the rent for a flat is about $111 a week which is $440 a month.
He said low income earners are asking if the rent can be reviewed as they have to pay for other things.
Another Opposition MP Niko Nawaikula also asked similar questions on this matter.
Bala said they are looking into it.
Meanwhile, Ba1a also highlighted that there are 1,552 rental housing units throughout the country.
He said capital projects under the government’s PRB program are for Kalabu which will house 36 families and construction work is expected to finish in September this year.
He added construction work for the 48 rental housing units in Savusavu is expected to finish in March next year.
Bala said these projects have been funded by government.
