The SODELPA Youth Wing wants the Office of the President to govern the Fiji Flag.
SODELPA Youth President Pita Waqavonovono made these comments while presenting a submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights.
He said such a responsibility regarding symbols of national unity should be given to the Office of the President.
Waqavonovono said they want Parliament to take a vote on the motion to change the Fiji Flag and inform the President of the decision.
He said the President should then speak to the Electoral Commission about the decision.
Committee member Niko Nawaikula then asked Waqavonovono on what other steps the SODELPA Youth Wing would take to persuade government if a referendum is not held.
Waqavonovono said the SODELPA Youth Wing is hoping that they will be given a permit to organize a march in October.
