“It is a major concern that it is taking too long for relevant stakeholders in the region to come together to find pragmatic and sustainable solutions to Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV AIDS.”
This is the comment made by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau while speaking at the 1st Oceania Society for Sexual Health and HIV Medicine Symposium.
Nailatikau said that they still continue to see denial, stigma and discrimination within the community and stakeholders working in isolation from each other.
Nailatikau said that the Pacific should learn to work closely with other agencies such as UNESCO, UN Women and other regional bodies in finding a sustainable solution to STIs and HIV AIDS.
Meanwhile, he said that according to the World Bank, NCDs are the number one killer in the Pacific accounting 75% deaths.
The Oceania Society for Sexual Health and HIV Medicine Symposium will end tomorrow.
