The President of Fiji Jioji Konrote was inducted as the Chancellor of the Order of Fiji by the Chief Justice Anthony Gates at the State House today.
Speaking after the investiture ceremony, President Konrote promised people that he will ensure Fiji will continue to cultivate cultural development by recognising the many women, men and children who have contributed to the development of Fiji.
The President says the Fiji Honours Award Act was established in 1995 and we are yet to honour thirty five individuals within the general division.
President Konrote has also directed the Fiji College of Honour Secretariat to be prepared to honour our successful medal winners in the upcoming Rio Olympics.
He says as a nation we cannot make much progress without the winning participation of all Fijians.
The President also announced the extension of the deadline of nominations for the General Division to the end of next month.
He says the Order of Fiji recognises merit and achievements by citizens of Fiji and honour appointments by non-Fiji Citizens which includes all areas of service to Fiji.
