It has been stressed by Fiji’s COP 23 Chief Negotiator that we will have to ask ourselves after COP 23 what have we brought home to our people.
Ambassador Nazhat Shameem Khan says she hopes that after COP23 we bring home to our people a greater capacity to understand the relationship between international governance on climate policy and national policy.
She also says that they continue to engage with the United States despite the decision by US President Donald Trump to pull out of the Paris Agreement.
Khan says there is no doubt at all that the United States continues to be an important part of the build up to COP 23.
She says there is continuous progress on the climate change negotiations and preparations for the October Pre-COP Meeting in Fiji.
Khan also says that continuous consultations are being conducted with Pacific Island countries to ensure that they continue to be represented.
