The Permanent Secretary of iTaukei Affairs Naipote Katonitabua says the proposed village by-law for villagers to get a plantation and a house first before you get married, has been very encouraging for most of the villages and provinces.
Katonitabua says the feedback from the consultations with the provincial councils has been very good.
He says they cannot do much right now but they need to teach children that it’s a big responsibility to become parents.
When asked on the rights of the people to get married, Katonitabua says they are not alone in the village as they will get help from the villagers to help them stand on their own two feet.
Katonitabua says the proposed by-laws have been drafted by the Solicitor General’s Office.
He adds that they feel that there is a lot of support from the village level.
Katonitabua says the by-laws will also strengthen family values.
Consultations will take place until the first quarter of 2017.
