The Poppy marks the continued recognition of the priceless sacrifice made by the sons and daughters of Fiji, who have served in the Fiji armed forces during the first and second world war.
While opening the National Poppy Appeal, Minister for Defence Timoci Natuva says it is that time of the year where ex‑servicemen and their families gather to commemorate the lives of the fallen soldiers.
Natuva says the Fijian blood has been shed around the world, and now there are only a handful of ex-servicemen who served through World I, World II and also battled on Christmas Island.
The money collected through the Poppy Appeal will go towards the Ex‑servicemen Association.
The National Poppy Remembrance Day will be on November 11th.
