Police have received reports of fake government Local Purchase Orders being issued online by unknown persons for the purchase of goods and services.
They say one particular case involved over $100,000 and later found to be fake.
Police have said there were three cases where transactions were conducted online, and when enquiry was made with the person believed to be facilitating the order, the person had no knowledge of the initial transaction but the goods and services had been issued.
They say those involved in this crime had assumed the identity of individuals employed within the government Ministries and Departments and stolen their identity to conduct the transactions.
People are advised to physically check or make a phone call to check LPO purchases that are made online with no other prior communication.
Police say a team from the Criminal Investigations Department is investigating the three cases reported in the Western Division and anyone with information is requested to call Crime stoppers on 919.
