Police prosecution has requested the Suva Magistrates Court that the case of a 29-year-old man accused of rape be transferred to the Suva High Court because of the nature of the crimes allegedly committed by the man.
Wise Lagilevu has been charged with a count each of rape, criminal intimidation, giving false information to a public servant, escaping from lawful custody and serious assault.
It is alleged that Lagilevu raped a 20-year-old woman on the 13th of last month, escaped from custody on the 15th and seriously assaulted someone on the 23rd of last month.
The alleged incidences occurred in Suva.
Police Prosecutor Constable Priti Prasad has told court that Lagilevu has allegedly committed indictable crimes and the case should be transferred to the High Court.
Magistrate Deepika Prakash has adjourned the matter to the 23rd of this month to be called in Suva High Court.
Lagilevu has been remanded in custody.
