Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho poses with one of the new police vehicles

Police officers who are found guilty of abusing police vehicles will be removed from the Force.

This was highlighted by Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho while receiving new police vehicles from Carpenters Motors.

Qiliho says a number of newly leased vehicles have been written off because either the driver was speeding, neglected the vehicle or in the worst case scenario vehicles were driven under the influence of alcohol.

He says this is unacceptable and no amount of appeal to have the officer reinstated will be considered.

He told the senior officers that they will not be able to monitor their drivers every time but that does not mean they are exempted from their responsibilities.

Qiliho reminded the officers that the monitoring aspect of their work needs to be tightened because there are too many loose ends.

The Police Commissioner stresses that they cannot ask others to observe the road rules when the Police officers seem to be breaking the rules themselves by driving dangerously.

Qiliho says so many things are being said about the Fiji Police Force in regards to their mobility assets by the public and they need to fix this.

He stresses that the excuse of no transport should not be heard as the people of Fiji know that the Fiji Police Force is receiving a lot of vehicles.

The new vehicles received by the Police.

The Commissioner says that it was frustrating when he heard that a senior officer was sitting in a vehicle that was involved in an accident.

He stressed that the officer should have said something that could have prevented the accident.

32 vehicles were handed to the Fiji Police Force.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says seven vehicles will be used in the Western Division, seven in the Southern division, four each will be sent to the Northern and Eastern Divisions while 10 vehicles will be used in the Central Division.
