Police are currently investigating a case where a partially decomposed body of a baby was discovered earlier this week in Delaivalelevu, Nasinu.

Police say the discovery was made by two people who were fishing near a mangrove swamp when they noticed a shopping bag stuck among the mangrove roots.

Upon checking they found a partly decomposed body of a baby wrapped in a towel.

Police say that following the post mortem, the cause of death could not be determined due to the state of the decomposition of the body.

Police are seeking assistance from the public to help find the mother of the baby.

Members of the public can call crime stoppers on 919 if they have any information regarding the case.
