95 children under the age of 18 were victims of sexual offences such as rape followed by defilement of young persons between 13 to 16 years and abduction of persons under 18 years with intent to have carnal knowledge in the month of November and December last year.
Speaking at the Bhawani Dayal Primary School Prize Giving, Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Biu Matavou said police are concerned with the involvement of children under the age of 18 years in criminal activities.
He says they are equally concerned about keeping them from becoming victims.
Matavou stressed that parents should not be so closed minded and accept what is happening around them because their failure to understand their children’s life will force them to seek alternative forces for comfort which could be detrimental to their well-being.
He said majority of these cases are linked to peer pressure.
It was also a proud day for Matavou as he presented prizes to his son and three daughters.
His son Biu Matavou Junior who is also the Head Boy of Bhawani Dayal Primary School received the Most Outstanding Student Award.
His daughter Ana Matavou who is in Year 7 received the Most Outstanding Student Award for her class while Hesrani Matavou finished second in her class.
Elizabeth Matavou who is in Class 1 received the second prize award in her class.
The Dux for Bhawani Dayal Primary School was Kevin Gounder.
