The Fiji Police Force is aware that some remandees and prisoners are given contraband items by their relatives when they make their appearance at the court house.
Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says this is because they have found a lot of items in the possession of the remandees and prisoners when they are taken back.
He says they are working with the Fiji Corrections Service to charge people found with contraband items.
The Fiji Corrections Service found contraband items like methamphetamine, sachets of marijuana, more than 50 mobile phones as well as phone chargers at the Suva Remand Centre in the last three weeks.
