A Police Sergeant has been charged with three counts of rape.
Michael Salendra Pratap appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa earlier this afternoon.
It is alleged that Pratap raped a 15-year-old girl on three different occasions at a police compound in the Central Division.
This incident occurred on the 22nd of last month.
Police Prosecutor Shanil Kumar objected to bail stating that the court should look at the seriousness of the allegations.
Pratap’s lawyer said his client should be given bail as it is the first call and there is no evidence to prove in court that he is convicted or will abscond bail.
Magistrate Boseiwaqa said Pratap will not be granted bail and he will be remanded in police custody at the Totogo police station.
The case has been transferred to the Suva High Court.
The matter has been adjourned to next Friday.
