Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald received superficial wounds while trying to stop a robbery at the Distill outlet in Flagstaff last night.
Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Henry Brown says five masked men who were armed entered the outlet and threatened the staff.
He says Commissioner Groenewald who was at the scene stepped forward and said that he is the Commissioner of Police and asked the robbers to stop what they were doing.
He got injured in the process.
The robbers fled in a taxi.
ACP Brown says they have located a taxi and are now trying to determine if the same vehicle was used in the robbery.
He also says that Commissioner Groenewald was taken to the hospital last night.
Groenewald was treated and is now resting at home.
