Plans are in place to identify some income generating projects to replace the cultivation of marijuana.
The recent drug raids conducted by the Fiji Police Force saw more than 2,200 marijuana plants uprooted in Kadavu.
Commissioner Eastern, Luke Moroivalu said they were looking at sandalwood planting as a suitable alternative for the farmers.
Moroivalu added that he met with the provincial administrators and divisional officers last week to discuss suitable income‑generating projects for Kadavu and the other divisions.
He said a team will also visit Kadavu to carry out capacity building meetings with the villages.
Police Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu said ‘Operation Sasamaki’ has led to the arrest of 25 people allegedly involved in the cultivation of marijuana.
