Plans are underway to build an orphanage in Labasa.
Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North committee Spokesperson Vincent Sahayam says the money collected from last year’s festival will be utilized in something which is a necessity for the division.
Sahayam says the orphanage will be situated near the Babasiga Ashram and they aim to complete it before the next festival this year.
He says they have requested the government to assist them as the legal paper work is in progress and once the documents are ready they will finalize the contractor.
Shayam says it is seen that many children in Labasa hospital are abandoned by their parents and to give them proper love and care they want to build an orphanage.
He cannot reveal the cost for this project.
Shayam also stresses that they have other projects in pipeline such as building a rest room along the Savusavu and Labasa highway and constructing a mall.
The committee collected close to $250,000 through the Festival of the Friendly North.
