There is good news for people living in informal settlements in Nadi and Nadroga as plans are set to regularise the tenancy for them.
Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Mereseini Vuniwaqa visited informal settlements like Naidovi and Cuvu in Nadroga and Nacobi, Navo and Navakai in Nadi earlier this week.
Vuniwaqa assured the tenants that the first priority is to provide them with an approval notice of 99 years.
This notice will allow these people to approach lending agencies for a loan to build permanent homes to improve their lives.
The approval notice will most importantly act as a form of security of tenure for them.
Meanwhile, 39-year-old Ajendra Singh of Nacobi settlement said the visit by the Minister and her senior staff was an act of re‑assurance by the Fijian Government to give security to those living in settlements.
