The Water Authority of Fiji had taken a proactive measure by switching off its pumping stations due to the flooding in Tavua, Ba and Rakiraki earlier this morning.

The Authority confirms that the pumping stations in Lautoka was also affected by flood waters hence they had to switch it off.

The Authority says their West crew is assessing the damages sustained to the pumping stations.

They have confirmed that water will be restored once the pumping stations are repaired however there is no time frame given.

The Authority has placed water tanks along the Ba and Lautoka area.

In Ba, the water tanks are placed in Votua, Nawaqawaqa, Vadravadra, Natalacake, Natutu, Nailaga, Varoko, Clopcott Street, Vatulaulau, Vuda Street and Mahesh Chauhan Shop in Yalalevu.

In Lautoka, the water tanks are placed in Naviago Village, Bila Settlement, Vitogo Village, Field 4 and Lovu Hart.

There will be water carting trucks that will be servicing the Tavua and Rakiraki areas.

The Authority is also encouraging people to contact its National Call Centre should they require water carting services on 3346777 or 5777.

It adds that water carting services might be disrupted in areas affected by the flooding due to inaccessible roads.
