A plane with five people on board has crashed near Essendon Airport in Melbourne's north, sparking a blaze at a nearby retail outlet centre.
Victoria’s Police Minister has confirmed there were five people on board and it is not known if there are any fatalities or injuries.
Thirteen fire trucks are battling to control the fire.
A worker at La Manna supermarket told the ABC she understood a plane had crashed into billboards near the DFO Essendon shopping mall.
