Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Josefa Koroivueta has stressed that people will be taken to task if their children are found loitering and begging in town.
This comes after concerns were raised on the increase in the number of children roaming around in the Capital City and begging.
Koroivueta says that they have made an arrangement with the Fiji Police Force who will ensure that children are not used for financial gain or exploitation during this school holidays.
Koroivueta also says that parents need to take responsibility for their children’s whereabouts as loitering can subject children to peer pressure and also involve them in unacceptable behavior.
Meanwhile, Koroivueta says that they will not accept children being used as vendors for the benefit of their family.
He says that they will only understand in the case if parents want their children to be by their side while they sell their produce.
