People will soon have access to the yearly income declaration of Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Directors provided by the soon to be established Accountability and Transparency Commission.
Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says as per the constitution, the Accountability and Transparency Commission has to have the enabling laws which are currently before one of the committees.
Opposition MP, Niko Naiwaikula had raised a question on the Accountability and Transparency Commission and why there has been an allocation of $500,000 to a commission that is not yet in place.
Sayed-Khaiyum then clarified that the Commission cannot be sitting there without the enabling law.
He says that they are hoping that the committee will be able to bring it to parliament to be voted on sometime this year or next year.
The Minister for Economy says that through the Accountability and Transparency Commission, everyone in parliament, Permanent Secretaries and Directors will have to make yearly declarations.
