Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi walks around the park shaking hands with hundreds of people

Some people who attended the welcome ceremony said that Opposition leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa and her SODELPA colleagues should not have boycotted this important event today.

A number of people travelled from as far as Ba early this morning to see the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Some stood on the chairs just to see Modi while many hung on to the ropes to secure their place to shake hands with Modi.

We spoke to a number of people who said that it is a memorable day for them to see a top world leader in Fiji.

Meanwhile, 76-year-old Hari-Narayan who was at Albert Park to see former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi in 1981 shared how glad he is to witness the visit of Modi.

Modi will have a meeting with the Pacific leaders at Grand Pacific Hotel at 6 tonight before heading back to India.

He will also address the public at the Fiji National University this hour.
