The Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has assured the people of Navua that there will be more street lights put up as only the first round of lights have been put up in the area.
Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted this at the National Budget Roadshow at Rampur College when asked by a resident to help them in getting street lights as there were no street lights from Wainiyabia to Galoa, and it is very dangerous.
The resident says that there are settlements, freehold estates and schools in the area and during functions in the year, that place is very dark.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that the way street lights are done and put up is based on population pockets.
The Fiji Roads Authority has been allocated $20.5 million for the Streetlight Improvement Programme.
$1.2 million has been allocated for the Suva‑Nausori Street lighting Programme, $3.1 million has been allocated for the Kings Road programme from Tavarau in Ba to Nausori while $2.06 million has been allocated for the Streetlight Programme from Labasa to Savusavu.
New street lights will also be installed with an allocation of $5.0 million while $1.4 million has been allocated for solar street lighting.
