30 families living in Nabua village and four teachers quarters at Nabua Primary School in Koroalau in Cakaudrove now have electricity after the Rural Solar Home System Electrification project was commissioned.
While commissioning the $156,000 government funded solar project, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the children will be able to read and study under lights that will not deteriorate their eyesight.
Bainimarama says electricity is essential to modern development, and not just for our livelihoods.
He says having reliable electricity, in this case from renewable sources means they can make communities safer and part of the green development the world is embracing.
More than 300 civil servants together with representatives from non‑government organisations and corporate organisations were present in Saqani to offer advisory services to locals.
Bainimarama highlighted that in March this year, he had commissioned more than $17 million worth of projects for Cakaudrove with more to be opened today and tomorrow.
