More than 2,000 diabetic patients in Nausori and nearby areas will now benefit from the newly opened Diabetes Foot Care Clinic at the Nausori Health Center.
The Project was funded by World Diabetes Foundation which cost close to $30,000.
Diabetes Fiji Project Manager Viliame Qio says that US based non-governmental organisation, Equal Meds Charity had helped in the furnishing of the new clinic.
Qio says that this will cater the growing number of patients requiring diabetes foot care services.
He says that initially they will be serving at least 15 patients on a daily basis presenting with diabetes foot problems.
The clinic will help in early treatment to avoid unexpected amputations.
According to the Health Ministry, almost 1 in every 3 Fijian is being diagnosed with diabetes and that’s 16% of the population.
