LTA has clarified that Stage Service buses can legally drop off or pick up passengers at designated bus stops along the corridor.
This is after a number of people raised concerns with Fijivillage that drivers of some Nausori to Suva and Suva to Cunningham buses refused to let some people board their buses who wanted to be dropped off in Nabua, Laucala Beach, Makoi and Nakasi.
Land Transport Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Naisa Tuinaceva says the driver may refuse to accept a passenger if the bus is full, and must take all precautions to ensure the safety of passengers.
Tuinaceva says there should be no issues if a passenger uses a Suva‑Nausori bus and gets off in Nabua.
He says people can contact LTA directly if they feel they are unfairly treated.
Meanwhile, Fiji Bus Operators Association President Parmod Chand says bus drivers are obliged to transport all passengers if there is enough space available.
