The Fiji Police Force is calling on public service vehicle drivers to prioritize the safety of their passengers at all times.
This follows an incident yesterday at the Nausori village roundabout where four passengers traveling in a bus, in a panic broke the window glass and jumped out of the moving bus.
Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra said the four including a child claim they had asked the driver to stop when they noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment.
The passengers are claiming that several requests were made to the driver however he continued to drive towards Nausori town and in a panic they jumped from the moving bus.
The four were treated at the Nausori Health Centre as investigations continue with the National Fire Authority and Land Transport Authority.
Mishra said if investigations prove the claims to be true, then it is a serious concern as PSV drivers should be fully aware of the importance of prioritizing the safety of their passengers at all times.
He said they will be working closely with LTA to ensure PSV drivers are abiding by the laws that govern their license and ensure those who continue to be negligent are held responsible.
Mishra has urged all stakeholders to reinforce the importance of passenger safety with their drivers or employees at all times.
