Speaker of Parliament Doctor Jiko Luveni has today confirmed that she expects the Parliamentary Privileges Committee to come back later this week with a recommendation on a matter of privilege concerning a parliamentarian.

When questioned by Fijivillage, Doctor Luveni said that she knows the committee is meeting this afternoon.

The Parliamentary Privileges Committee is currently looking into a matter of privilege concerning a Member of Parliament.

Chairman of the committee, Ruveni Nadalo has confirmed to Fijivillage that he has excused himself from chairing the meeting as he was the Speaker in Parliament when the incident occurred.

Doctor Luveni confirms that government MP Netani Rika is chairing the committee meeting.

They have completed their first meeting and will go back in this hour.

The Speaker and the Parliamentary Secretariat have not released details on the matter of privilege and the MP concerned.

The Speaker said yesterday that she has received a notification on a matter of privilege.

When approached by Fijivillage on the issue, Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa said that she will not make any comments.
