Parliament will now have 7 sitting weeks from April till November this year.
This was after Parliament voted that the March and July sittings be removed.
The budget address will now be on 7th June and the budget debate will be from 17th to 21st June.
While moving the motion, the Leader of Government in Parliament, Inia Seruiratu says this is a balancing act, as they need to look at the work of the government and the work of the Committees.
Opposition leader Sitiveni Rabuka says instead of reducing the days they should stick with the same program.
Rabuka also suggested that instead of having half day of Parliament sitting on Friday, they should have the full day.
NFP’s MP Pio Tikoduadua says NFP opposes the reduction adding they believe that they are doing grave injustice to the tax payers.
He says the ten additional days to facilitate the Committee sittings to clear the backlogs will not work.
44 MP’s voted in support of the motion while 2 voted against it and 5 did not vote.
Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau ended the session with some humour by saying that men made the plan and men can change it.
The next Parliament sitting will be on 1st April.
